Hi, i’m Kayla!
What inspired me to become a doula?
I am a wife of almost 9 years and a mother of a 5 year old little boy, Pierce. From the time I found out I was pregnant, I enjoyed every moment of pregnancy (even when my feet wouldn’t fit in any shoes anymore)! Awaiting the arrival of my sweet baby, I was the typical first-time mother, unsure whether my body would know what to do, would I know when I was in labor, would I really be able to push a baby out of there, would I be able to breastfeed, would my baby latch, how would I be as a mother without sleep with a new baby. These are all questions that run through our heads as first-time and most likely every time you have a baby. It is okay to be unsure but what I WISH I would have had is someone to talk to and to be honest and not vague about what to expect. Someone to have knowledge and evidence-based pros and cons of different options. Someone to recommend a birth plan to me, someone to rely on (non-family member, families are AMAZING, but they may or may not have accurate knowledge when it comes to birth, medical procedures, and processes) for medical and professional opinions. Someone to tell me not to get that epidural when I was only in early labor, or just the basic pros and cons. Options, just making it known that there are options and tools in every scenario. This is what I want to provide for my clients, everything listed above that I didn’t exactly get provided to me, as a patient. A positive birth experience is so very important because you will remember this day for the rest of your life. |
